Walnuts are one of the best natural sources of beneficial Omega-3s. Dr Greene notes this sweet and spicy snack is great on the go and is also superb in salads.

2 cups walnuts
1 cup water
1/2 cup plus 2 teaspoons sugar, divided
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 or 2 pinches cayenne pepper
Preheat oven to 350°
Combine water and 1/2 cup sugar in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Boil briefly to dissolve the sugar. Add walnuts, stirring to coat, and boil 3-4 minutes. Remove walnuts from heat and strain, discarding liquid.
In a medium bowl, combine the remaining 2 teaspoons of sugar, paprika, salt, cinnamon, allspice, onion powder and cayenne. Add drained walnuts and toss to coat.
Spread nuts out on a cookie sheet and bake 5-7 minutes. Stir briefly and return to oven 2 minutes more. Remove from oven and cool completely.
